WHAT?  Housing Choice Vouchers provide rental assistance for eligible low-income families in the private rental market. The Housing Authority of Okanogan County’s Housing Assistance Payment Program makes guaranteed rent payments directly to the landlords’ bank account on time each month!

HOW?  The Housing Assistance Payment subsidizes the monthly rent payment directly to the property owner. Voucher holders normally pay no more than 30% of their monthly adjusted income towards rent and utilities.

The Attorney General’s Office does not handle complaints about issues relating to the Residential Landlord-Tenant Act. Here is a link to a list of resources that may assist you.

Payment Standards

Updated annually by the Housing Authority of Okanogan County (HAOC) based on Fair Market Rent information published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

  • A payment standard is HAOC’s maximum allowable monthly assistance toward a family’s “gross rent”. (Gross Rent: Sum total of (1) the contract rent charged by the landlord; and (2) the utility allowance the HAOC credits to the family for any utilities the family must pay.)

  • Payment standards DO NOT determine, or limit, the contract rent a landlord may charge. The maximum rent is based on the family’s income and reasonable rent for the unit.
